Have you heard about Crossover II Fabric & Paper Cutting System?
In this tutorial I will cut all my fabric and the applique using the Crossover II by Crafter’s Edge. To get to know this machine better click here and to get to know more about my partnership as a Designer for Crafter’s Edge click here.
The cutting dies I am using for this project are the “2.5 inch strip cutter” and “1 inch and 1.5 inch strip cutters”, you can find it here. Optionally, I am adding butterflies in this project and I am using the “Beautiful butterflies” die set along with “Heat and Bond Ultrahold”, click here to see this item.
You will be able to make these items even if you don’t own a Crossover II. All materials and measurements will be listed below.
For this project I am using the 10-inch Stacker/42 pieces Faith, Hope & Love by Sue Daley Designs for Riley Blake Designs from Blue Willow Mercantile, to purchase this item click here, use ‘daisitoegel’ COUPON CODE to get 10% off your entire purchase!

*Seam allowance is ¼” unless noted otherwise.
*WOF = 42” for yardage / fabric stack 10″ square.
FABRIC REQUIREMENTS & CUTTING INFORMATION
*Crossover II Machine for cutting or a 6″ x 12″ quilting ruler;
*2.5 inch strip cutter and 1 inch and 1.5 inch strip cutters Crafter’s Edge die sets (if using a Crossover II Machine);
*Beautiful Butterflies Crafter’s Edge die set (if using a Crossover II Machine);
*Heat and Bond Ultrahold and fabric scraps to cut the Butterflies applique in the desired size;
*1 Stack of 10″ squares (generally sold in 42 pieces) = 12 squares will be used for the table runner AND 8 squares will be used for making two placemats:
o COLOR A (pink/yellow fabrics):
(24) 2 1/2″ x 7.5″ strips (6.3cm x 19cm)
(12) 1 1/2″ x 8″ strips (3.8cm x 20.3cm)
o COLOR B (blue fabrics):
(12) 2 1/2″ x 8″ strips (6.3cm x 20.3cm)
(14) 1 1/2″ x 8″ strips (3.8cm x 20.3cm)
o COLOR C (white fabric):
(12) 2 1/2″ x 8″ strips (6.3cm x 20.3cm)
(4) 1 1/2″ X 8 strips (3.8cm x 20.3cm)
(20) 1″ x 8″ strips (2.5cm x 20.3cm)
OR (cutting as above):
*2/3yd color A
*1/3yd color B
*1/3yd color C
Cut all color B and C 2 1/2″ x 8″ in half, you will have now (24) B = 4″ x 2 1/2″ and (24) C = 4″ x 2 1/2″.
Sew (24) pairs of color B and C. Press seams to the darker side.
Sew each two-color strip to one 2 1/2″ color A strip, making 8 big rectangular blocks as in the picture below. Sew the rectangles together and press vertical seams open.
When you sew all the rectangles, your table runner top will be ready. Baste and quilt using your preferred method.
To make the placemats, sew the top and bottom first.
All fabrics cut. I find it easier to set them on the table as they’ll be sewn.
Each placemat will have a pair of each color B and C at the top and bottom, forming 4 pairs.
Sew the placemats’ center vertical strips following C1–C3–C2–C3–C1–C3–C2–C3–C1–C3–C2–C3–C1–C3–C2–C3–C1–C3–C2–C3–C1.
Each center part of the placemats will have (6) C1, (5) C2 and (10) C3.
Trim half inch on each side and sew the top and bottom to finish the placemats quilt top.
Press all vertical seams to the side of your choice.
I generally pin baste my projects (I use these) and then I trace my quilting design before I bring it to the sewing machine.
I use a Frixion pen that you can find here. I trace it with a ruler and then iron it off.
This step is optional, but let me walk you through on how I make my applique.
After I completely finish the project, iron the lines off and bind, then I prepare the applique and iron-on. I cut a piece of both the fabric and adhesive that will fit my cutting die and iron both together. In the Crossover II I cut stacking 6 layers of the fabric with the adhesive applied in the #5 adjustable strength.
Heat and Bond Ultrahold doesn’t require sewing, so I prefer to add my applique in the end for a perfect finishing.
This set can be used on both sides and it is fully washable as the iron-on adhesive is very strong and won’t come off easily.
The finished size of the table runner is 12″x56″ and the placemats 10″x16″.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Please follow me and tag me on Instagram if you make this project and let me know in the comments below what colors you’d use, I am always curious to know what your combinations would be.

I love these! I am going to use your pattern to make some placemats and use some of those 10″ stacks I have. Thanks, Daisi! (Did you like using the strip cutting dies rather than the rotary cutter and ruler? I put these dies on my wish list.)
Yay can’t wait to see your placemats!!! I love using it!! Best part is although they’re 8inches, they cut just on the sides so you can have a strip as long as you want!!!!
They turned out so beautiful…love them!
Thank you ❤️ Happy that you like it 😍
