Welcome to this FREE tutorial with Michael Miller Fabrics 2022 Blog Hop!!!
For this tutorial, I used the Pumpkin Farm Collection for the top and binding, and I used the Fresco Collection for the backing.
Fall is almost here, so it’s time to start decorating! This is my favorite season of the year, and the only season I decorate. One of my favorite rooms to play with the decor is the dining room, my table is small, but just the right size to add a cute runner and flowers.
Michael Miller Fabrics invited me to create a project using their new Pumpkin Farm collection and I added the Fresco basic collection as well. All Michael Miller basic collections, like Fresco, go really well with all their beautiful seasonal prints.
Initial instructions:
*Finished size is 15″ x 38 1/2″
*Seam allowance is 1/4″ unless otherwise noted.
*WOF means width of fabric.
*Assume 42″ WOF.
Fabric requirements and cutting instructions (estimating 1/2″ extra for the borders to accommodate any possible fabric stretch):
Letters: 1/6yd = Cut (2) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips; sub-cut (29) 2 1/2″ squares;
Letters’ background = 1/4yd = Cut (3) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips; sub-cut (35) 2 1/2″ squares;
1st border = 1/6yd = Cut (3) 1 1/2″ x WOF strips; sub-cut (2) 8 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ and (2) 35″ x 1 1/2″;
2nd border = 1/6yd = Cut (3) 3″ x WOF strips; sub-cut (2) 10 1/2″ x 3″ and (2) 40″ x 3″;
Binding = 1/4yd = Cut (3) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips; sew each strip’s corners on the bias for making the binding, fold in half, and press along the length;
Backing = 1/2yd;
Sewing instructions:
To make the blocks lay each letter layout on the table or design board before you start sewing.
Sew the squares together for each block and sew the blocks together to form the word FALL. No trimming is necessary.
Press seams open.
Sewing the borders and quilting:
Start sewing the 1st border on the sides, then top and bottom.
Sew the 2nd border in the same manner.
Baste and quilt the top, batting, and backing in the preferred method.
To trim, position the ruler on top of the 1st border towards the edge all along the rectangle, so the 2nd border will measure 2 1/2″ when finished and will be ready to bind.
