With just one fat quarter you can make 4 yards of bias binding! Check this easy tutorial I’ve put together for you. Plus get the FREE Continuous Bias Binding Chart for easy calculation – check below.

The fabric used in this tutorial is All my Heart – Candy Wraps by J. Wecker Frisch for Riley Blake Designs, purchased from Missouri Star Quilt Co website, and using my link you get 15% off of your total purchase.
Step 1:
From (1) one fat quarter (binding fabric), cut a square on the straight grain (for this tutorial we are using an 18in x 18in square), or using the FREE Continuous Bias Binding Chart to calculate the amount of bias binding you need and determine the size of the square you will need.
Cut the square in half diagonally to form two triangles.
Step 2:
With right sides together, align two short triangle edges as shown in the picture above. Sew using a 1/4in seam allowance to make a parallelogram (next picture). Press seams open, and I also recommend starching (I use Best Press and I buy it at 15% off by checking out with this link at Missouri Start Quilt Co).
Step 3:
Use a Frixion erasable pen or marker and a ruler to draw lines parallel to the long bias edges. Space the lines in the desired width of the binding strip (refer to the FREE Continuous Bias Binding Chart if needed).
Cut any excess and discard.
Step 4:
With right sides together, bring the straight-grain edges together and align the raw edges shifting one straight-grain edge so the top corner is offset by the width of one drawn line.
Step 5:
Pin the edges and sew using 1/4in seam allowance. DO NOT press this seam yet if you’re using a heat-erasable pen. If you used a maker (like Hera marker), press the seams open.
Step 6:
At the extended edge, use scissors and begin cutting on the drawn lines to make one continuous bias strip.
Step 7:
You don’t have to trim the end tips, but you can if you choose to have them squared. I like using triangle tips to hide the edges more easily when sewing the binding on a project.
Fold the bias binding wrong sides together in half on the length and press.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

Thank you so much for the continuous binding tutorial. I had only done this one other time, a long time ago. It worked very well for the plaid I was working with.
